BM Bureau, June 18 : Commuters from Belagavi, Goa and Karwar region may heave a sigh of relief as the upheld work on Belagavi- Goa National Highway-4A between Anmod and Khanapur is expected to resume soon. The four & six laning work from Khanapur to Anmod was stalled for over three years due to petition filed by environmentalists in the Supreme Court.

According to former Karnataka Minister and senior congress leader R V Deshpande the Supreme Court has vacated all the stays and the work may resume soon. While commuters and villagers are left to suffer, the news has brought big relief among the people of the region.

“Apart from the people from north Karnataka and Goa region, about seven villages along the Ramnagar- Anmod route were suffering due to dilapidated road. The work was expected to commence soon, however the present contractor has been disgusted and denied to continue the work probably due to losses incurred. NHAI is expected to float the fresh tenders soon after which the work is expected to resume, giving a sigh of relief to thousands of citizens from Karnataka and Goa,” Deshpande told Belgaum Mirror.

The road has turned traveler’s nightmare while commuters and villagers had lost hopes in the authorities as the pleas by the people had fallen on the deaf ears.
