Trucks-Commuters left stranded for over 20 hours on NH4A

BM Bureau, June 18 : While transporters and commuters travelling on the Belagavi-Goa NH4A via Anmod continue facing many problems due to the incomplete highway that has become dangerous , on Thursday the truck drivers and other commuters had to go through a nightmarish experience. As commuters continue to suffer due to the hazardous road, demand for completing the long pending construction too is on rise.

Many drivers were left stranded for over several hours due to a huge traffic jam. Serpentine queue of about 150 trucks and other vehicles were left stranded between Gunji- Watare stretches between Khanapur & Londa for over 20 hours from Wednesday till Thursday afternoon. There was a huge traffic jam after a truck was stuck in a huge pothole. Over five kilometres long queue of stranded vehicles was seen along the stretch.

While the day passed waiting impatiently for authorities to clear the road, the bewildered truck drivers were left starving and at the mercy of heavy rains and night darkness while nothing to eat and drink.

A team of activists from Gunji village comprising of Parashram Tolgekar, Tanaji Goral, Pankaj Kutre, Santosh Patil, Satish Burud, Anil Desai, Narayan Birje and others turned good samaritans served puffed rice (pohe) to the hungry and bewildered truck drivers and cleaners and commuters travelling in private vehicles.

Meanwile, villagers and commuters are cursing the authorities and the elected representatives for their unpardonable negligence in getting the national highway completed by sorting out the issues and urging the Centre.
