Simple, Symbolic Rajyotsava Celebration: No permission for ‘Black Day’ – DC MG Hiremath  


BM Bureau, Oct 17 : Karnataka Rajyotsava or statehood day will be celebrated this year simple and symbolic in the wake of Covid-19.  “Only police parade will be held and no procession or cultural event will be held,” Deputy Commissioner MG Hiremath said at a meeting that was convened at the DC office meeting hall today. ·          “ After paying homage to the portrait of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari at the city’s C Ped grounds, statue of Rani Chenamma also would be garlanded at Chenamma Circle, he said. ·

Though Rajyotsava is celebrated in Belagavi with pomp and traditional fervor, it would be celebrated meaningfully. Kannada activist Mehboob Makandar suggested that the seminar (webinar) or dialogue programs should be conducted by the district administration on the great personalities who have worked for the protection of Kannada language and culture.·

Speaking on the occasion, veteran Kannada activist Ashoka Chandaragi said the names of the shops and showrooms should be written in Kannada or the licenses should be cancelled. He also appealed to the Commissioner of Police to impose the penalty receipt imposed by the Police Department in the Kannada language.·

No permission for Black Day: ·

While Marathi speaking people demanding merger of Belagavi and border areas observe the day as ‘ Kala Divas’ (Black Day) no permission will be given for the same in wake of Covid-19, DC Hiremath ascertained. Activist Ashok Chandargi urged authorities to felicitate Corona Warriors on this day. ·

The meeting commenced by paying tributes to deceased Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi and Kannada activists who died recently due to Covid infection.·
