Fifth Edition of Belagavi Half Marathon on Nov 6 : Last date of registration on Monday



BM Bureau, Oct 23  : The fifth edition of the Belagavi Half Marathon a major running event will be held on November at the Golf training ground near Club Road. Over 1500 runners will be taking part in the event that is being held with the twin aims of creating health awareness and to raise funds for health promotion of students in government schools in and around Belagavi. The marathon will be held in three categories comprising of 21 kms, 10 kms, 5 kms and FunRun.

Considered as a social responsibility to promote healthy lifestyle among the citizens the run also supports Rajalakshmi Children Foundation which is involved in health promotion of the underprivileged students in the government schools.

Giving details about the event Dr Shashikant Kulgod said that ‘YouTooCanRun’, a leading sports management company is partnering with Lakeview Foundation to oversee the successful conduct of the event and ensure the best experience to the participants. Stating that the great Rani Chenamma who fought the battle with the British in 1824 when she was 41 Dr Kulgod said that many health issues for women arise in their 40s.  “ Taking Rani Chennamma as the inspiration we are trying to motivate women in this age group by offering them special discount on registration.Many health issues such as heart ailments, osteoporosis start becoming common after menopause. We urge women to come forward and register for this marathon,” Dr Kulgod ascertained. We also pay tribute to Phadeppa Dareppa Chaugule, India’s first Olympic marathoner who hailed from Belagavi.

P Venkatraman founder CEO of YouTooCanRun expressed happiness over the response the event is receiving in Belagavi. ‘We are happy to associate with the Lakeview Foundation and organised this event for people of Belagavi who have shown great enthusiasm. Like early events, we are looking for a good clean race or the social organisations that are seeking to promote their initiatives. Our aim is to provide runners a contemporary expression of traditional values, resulting in exemplary quality of service that they have come to expect from our platform.”

The winner trophies of the 18-35 age categories for the Half- Marathon (Women & Men) are dedicated to lives and contributions of these distinguished personalities.
