BM Bureau: In the wake of the Parliamentary elections and rising incidents of inflow of Goa liquor in Belagavi, the district authorities have intensified the vigil at the check posts near Kankumbi, Peeranwadi, Shinoli, and other border locations. Officials have been also directed to inspect all the vehicles due to the rising inflow of unaccountable cash.

Maintaining close vigil Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil, Police Commissioner Ieda Martin Marboning, and other senior officials on Wednesday were seen inspecting the vehicles for illicit Goa liquor and illicit cash. Some vehicles in the check posts of the rural assembly constituency area of Belagavi were personally inspected by the district magistrate Nitesh Patil and police commissioner Ieda Martin Marbaniang.

District Magistrate Nitesh Patil observed that due to the interstate border area of Belagavi, there is a high possibility of smuggling illegal alcohol, and with the Model Code of Conduct in place, there should be vigilant monitoring of illegal money and goods as well. The officials also instructed that the officials/teams assigned to the check posts must wear their identification badges, and record every vehicle inspection in the register, and while conducting vehicle inspections, they should be courteous and attentive to their safety.

Police Commissioner Marbaniang said that police officers should be present at each checkpost to conduct inspections.
