Cases down : Govt of Karnataka announces further relaxations

BM Bureau, July 18 : As the Covid-19 cases have come down substantially Government of Karnataka has further relaxed the Covid-19 related lockdown norms. Cinema halls, theatres and colleges to reopen while night curfew has been relaxed further.

The government had imposed restrictions since April 27 and it was made stringent from May 10 as the Covid-19 cases in the state had crossed the figure of more than 50,000 per day.
Higher educational institutions like colleges and universities have been also given the permission to start from July 26. The order in this regard has been issued by Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar who is also the State Executive Committee Chairman of the Surveillance Committee.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa chaired the meeting in this regard with senior ministers and officials at his residence here on Sunday. As per the order, cinema theatres would be allowed to operate with 50 per cent occupancy after adhering to Covid-19 protocols.

Regarding the reopening of colleges and universities, the order said that only those who have taken at least one dose of vaccine will be allowed to attend their duties and classes.
The unlock process in Karnataka commenced from June 14, eased further on June 21 while the Unlock 3 was announced on July 5.
The night curfew that was in force from 9 pm has been now extended from 10 pm to 5am.
