Appreciating the stand taken by the Christian churches in the city and North Karnataka region not to hold public religious services till the further government orders Special Nodal Officer and ADGP (Railways) Bhaskar Rao urged Christians to continue abiding the Covid guidelines by the State Government.
He was speaking at a meeting with Bishop Derek Fernandes, Christian priests and community leaders that was held at the Bishops House at Camp Saturday morning. Police Commissioner Dr K Thyagarajan, DCP Yashoda Vantgodi and senior police officials were present.
“I appreciate the measures you have initiated in containing the Covid by following the government guidelines. I also urge the involvement of the community people in distributing masks, sanitisers among the poor people and create awareness among the community to observe measures in containing the spread of Covid-19,” Rao urged stating that stringent measures are required as “The virus doesn’t move, it’s we who move.” .
Handing over the circular to all the churches to abide by the State Government guidelines Bishop Fernandes said that all the churches in Belgaum, Dharwad, Bagalkote, Haveri, Gadag and Karwar have been strictly adhering to the Government directives including the Covid Appropirate Behavior (CAB).
“ Strictly adhering to the State Government guidelines so that spread of Covid is restricted we are also reaching out to the needy during the lockdown period by supporting them with daily needs,” Bishop Derek said. He also lauded the soft initiative by the North Karnataka police under the guidance of ADGP Rao in enforcing the State Government guidelines.
Belgaum Diocese Board of Education Secretary Fr Nelson Pinto, Public Relations Secretary Louis Rodrigues, Laity Commission Secretary Clara Fernandes, Vicar General Fr Philip Kutty, Fr Cajetan D’souza, Fr Jack Menezes, Fr Vijay Mendith, Fr Francis D’souza, Fr Pramod, Wilson Carvalho and other leaders were present.
