Bishop Derek Fernandes appeals people and churches to follow Covid Appropriate Behavior and government guidelines

Belgaum, April 22 : Churches and chapels in the Dioceses of Belgaum and Karwar will remain closed for the public services. Bishop of Belgaum and Karwar Rev Dr Derek Fernandes has issued a circular to priests in charge of all the churches in both the dioceses to strictly follow the State Government order and guidelines and not to hold public masses and prayers on weekdays and Sundays.

“All churches in the dioceses of Belgaum and Karwar shall be closed for public service involving the attendance of the public, but may have the Eucharistic Celebration with priests, religious and the staff of the church involved, without any ‘visitors’ till May 4, 2021. Please follow this strictly,” Bishop Fernandes has urged in the circular.

The circular also carries all the government guidelines and directives for the containment of the second wave of Covid-19.

“ We are facing difficult times. The second wave seems to be deadlier than the first one. Hence I appeal priests and the people to strictly follow the CAB (Covid Appropriate Behaviour) as stipulated by authorities ,” he has stated. All the directives and guidelines regarding marriage & funerals should be followed strictly, he has urged.
